To get the most out of your marketing, do this….

Marketing involves finding and defining target markets for your products and services. Your marketing must be able to match the product to specific groups of people that are willing and able to buy the product and to know the differences of each of these target markets.

Rather than assuming that you will go through the process of defining your market once and be done with it, you must treat market identification as an ongoing process.

Target market information allows you to increase revenues, decrease cost of marketing, refine your sales processes, determine more clearly who a prospect is and is not, discover market changes, and find more new customers.

The better you can define your customers and their interests, distinguishing characteristics, and other distinctive factors about them, the more effective your marketing dollars will become. Once you know who your market is you can better set up a system for your marketing.

You may actually have several different markets. For example, you may have one product line that is more generic and less costly than another. The people who would buy the first product line may be very different than those that buy a second, third or fourth, more costly product line.

Miss this in your marketing and you may destroy your business!

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear about or experience a company that forgets the basics of Marketing 101. Lots of companies use all the latest and greatest marketing strategies to attract business, yet forget one of the most effective forms of marketing; stellar customer service.

It seems more and more companies are overlooking this type of marketing. Or, they think that offering so/so customer service is good enough.

That may be fine for an average business, selling an average product or service, to people who don’t care about anything but the cheapest price and the greatest bargain. For companies who want to be known as above average, who want to command top dollar, be in the game for the long haul and be recognized as one of the best, good enough is hardly good enough. You have to go above and beyond. One of the most important aspects of going above and beyond is paying attention to what your customers need and what they are asking for.

Segmenting your market can reap huge benefits

As you develop your marketing strategy keep in mind the various segments of the market. Due to the segmentation you must market in different ways to different groups. You cannot be all things to all people. Instead of marketing a product in one way to everyone, you must recognize that some segments are not only different, but better than others for your product. Regardless of your product or service, take your total market and divide it up according to what is important to each.

Is online success really about luck?

Recently I was checking my emails as I always do. One email was from someone who apparently has been on my main database list for a few years; someone who has been receiving my information month after month for several years.

Her message was not unlike others I have received from readers who at some point signed up for one of my free items and then, after I had built name recognition and trust, decided it was a good idea to purchase something from me.

The message got me thinking about the number of times someone has bought a product from me and then shared they had been on my list for either a few months or a few years. It is more common nowadays for people to receive information for a period of time before they make the decision to buy. Not just from me, but from you too.
