Don’t set yourself up to be ignored in Social Networks

Today is day 3 of NAMS3. Wow! What an amazing event Niche Affiliate Marketing Systems is. David Perdew is a master at putting on highly valuable events.

Since this is an Internet Marketing event, you can well imagine how much tweeting is going on, posting on blogs and on social networks.

Most people are doing what they can to keep up with their email and DMs/PMs. I am definitely no exception. I have posted on my blog, done some fun marketing via my channels I use (and made money while enjoying NAMS3, posted videos on YouTube and done what I can to stay on top of friend's requests in Facebook.

Internet marketing can seem like a walk in freezing rain

For years I have known the importance of consistent steps to
move toward a goal. Every so often a step can seem monumental and overwhelming.
On the flip side are the steps that seem so minimal the thought that they are
not necessary can crop up.

Then there are the steps that are just darned uncomfortable.
Such was the case this morning. Actually, the step I needed to take seemed both
monumental and very uncomfortable.

Regardless, I took the step. What was it? In a moment I will
share it, but let me set the stage.

A few months ago I was training for a full marathon as a
power walker. (Nope, I’m not a runner, nor do I want to be, I love power
walking). The marathon was scheduled for October 4th but in late
August my plans came to a screeching halt when I broke my ankle.

From the day I had the accident, I had my mind set on
healing and participating in a full marathon. Granted, not in October, 2009,
but as soon as possible.

A few weeks ago I took my first walk since the injury. The
distance paled in comparison to the double digit walks I had been taking on a
fairly regular basis a few months ago.

Internet Marketing – One of my greatest frustrations with others

Today I am compelled to write about something I am very frustrated about. Not frustrated for me, but frustrated by the people who set incredibly realistic goals of what they want to achieve in their business, but when they lay out their plan of action, they either don't want to do anything, saying they will “attract” business to them, or they put so little on their action list that it would take them a lifetime to achieve their goals.

Don't get me wrong, I have been a strong believer in the Law of Attraction for years. I have studied it, applied it and definitely seen results from the Law. But I also know that with the thoughts we have there has to be some type of action. And in some cases massive action.

As Joe Vitale calls it, “Inspired action.”

Massive action does not mean going into complete overwhelm that one is not at all productive. It means taking daily action to move you towards an outcome. The paradox here is that it's essential to let go of the outcome of the actions because often there is something pleasantly unexpected that will show up to help you move closer to the outcome you desire. If you hold so tight to how you believe things should turn out, you will likely miss many “unknown” opportunities.

But I digress. Back to those who want to achieve a lot but are setting such minimal standards for what they are willing to do to get an outcome they are surprised nothing is happening. At least nothing visible.

I see this in solopreneurs such as authors, speakers, coaches and consultants who desire to build their business. They have visions of grandeur but when it comes down to what needs to be done, they really haven't a clue. Or if they do, they keep saying, “Tomorrow I will do something.”

Let me use the following example. Let's say you are making $10 a month in your business. To achieve this amount of revenue you make one phone call a month, send out one email, attract one new person to your opt in subscriber list, write one article and basically do as little as possible.

Then you set a goal that you want to triple your revenues, but you continue to make one phone call a month, send out one email, attract one new person to your opt in subscriber list, write one article and basically repeat the exact same behaviors as before.

I've got news for you, nothing is going to change.

To increase what you get you must increase what you do. It simple mathematics. Don't make the mistake I see the majority of people make. They dream of what they want, but they fail to take the correct action.

To build a successful business, regardless of the industry, you have to take certain actions. Often, we don't know what those actions are. This is where learning from someone who has been there, done that comes in. Mentors, coaches, teachers, whatever name you give them. The people who have proven that with the right steps, amazing things can happen.

Would your business survive if your life turned upside down?

What would you do if you HAD to stop working? Would you be able to sustain financially?

you’ve been receiving my information or reading my blog for any length of time, you know a few
months ago I had some back to back “life happenings”.

did I know what was in store, nor that I would need to take off a substantial
amount of time from my business.

For a
period of three months I was not working at full capacity in my business –
actually I was working as little as possible. Yet, my revenues continued to
come in – daily.

greatest blessing of this is I was able to be fully present during a family crisis
that required a great deal of my time and attention.

past weekend I was reflecting over the past few months. As one of the most life
changing periods in my life, my priorities shifted.

One, I
have been taking more leisure time with family and friends. Two, I have
recommitted to my marathon training. Three, I am more committed than ever to
help as many people as I can learn and understand how to use the Internet to
grow their business and create a very sustainable revenues with real business

increased commitment is due to knowing what it feels like to be fully present
for family at a time it was most needed. If my business were not sustainable, I
would have been very torn between many things in the last few months. Looking back,
I have no regrets.

can’t even begin to put into words how grateful I am for the way things worked
out. Yet, it wasn’t always like this. In the past, I never would have been able
to do this. I would have had to work extremely long hours just to catch up because
of taking so much time off.

numbers of people would like to have the freedom of taking time off when they
need or want to, but they don’t have the revenue stream in their business to do

you can. But it takes effort and time. It takes planning and foundation. It
takes knowledge to know what to do and what not to do. Believe me, when systems
are in place, amazing things can happen.

ability to have the freedom I have today didn’t happen overnight. I worked at
it, I had mentors, I studied, I went to seminars, workshops and conferences, I
planned and I put time into building a very solid foundation and business.

my deepened commitment to help as many people as possible build a business they
can be proud of AND not wonder if they are going to be able to pay the mortgage
from month to month, I developed a program designed to teach anyone who is
serious about building a business how to do so. And, I priced it so low that
virtually anyone can afford it.

What do successful authors say about social media?

It’s amazing how many people just don’t realize the true benefits of social networking and social marketing.

Putting the power of social networking to the test, not long ago I sent out a message to members of an author’s group I belong to on LinkedIn. The request I posted was this, “I am writing an article/report on social marketing/social media. I would love to hear success tips from members of this group.”

Within a very short period of time, I received lots of responses. Below are a few that I wanted to share with you for a couple of primary reasons. One, to show you how quickly you can get what you need if you simply ask. Two, to show by example, how powerful social networks truly are. Within a very short period of time, I received several outstanding responses that gave me what I need for an excellent article and blog post.

Many people are of the belief that writing articles and blog posts are difficult. This simply is not true…if you know where to look. And they are both great ways to market books, teleseminars, live presentations and more.

But I digress. This is a topic for a future article. For now, take a look at what these authors (who also know the importance of marketing) have to say.

Response I
“Viral marketing means many things, including e-mail and fax blasts, article publishing, blogging and writing on others' blogs, social networking on every possible site, creating multiple web sites and blogs, creating video book trailers, posting on Twitter regularly, maintaining pages at LinkedIn, Goodreads, Facebook, MySpace, Filedby, Multiply, Ziggs, Ning, You Tube, Yahoo, etc.

Video book trailers have become a viral marketing avenue. Each and every electronic source for promoting a book should be exploited.

Never assume that your book will sell to your heart’s content just because it appears on Amazon, Borders or Barnes & Noble. So do a million other such books. For effective marketing, you must create a viral wave of interest via electronic promotion. Wherever people congregate electronically, your book must reside.”

Charles Weinblatt
Author, Jacob’s Courage

Response II
If you are already writing an e-newsletter, you can archive the issue which creates a URL that you can share across your social media platforms — thereby leveraging your expertise to people who don't already subscribe. I do this with my Constant Contact newsletters and the results have been great.

Why are you using Twitter in your Internet Marketing?

now, almost everyone has heard of Twitter and millions upon millions of people
are using it. Yet, many people are not getting the most out of their Twitter

those who may be new to Twitter, let’s start by defining Twitter.

is a social marketing platform done through microblogging. Microblogging allows
a subscriber of a web service to broadcast short messages to other subscribers
of the service through micro posts.

greatest appeal of microblogging is its immediacy and portability. Posts are no
more than 140 characters. Some microblog sites do allow up to 200 characters,
but your Twitter posts can be no more than 140 characters.. Again, this is
characters, not words.

is the most widely recognized form of microblogging. Although there was
skepticism by many when Twitter was first introduced, it is now a very common
form of online communication.

Learning How Not To Market From the Big Guys

How Not To Market From the Big Guys

Carolyn Howard-Johnson

seems, Abercrombie and Fitch . . . .mmmm, borrowed the name
“Hollister” from a California town for one of its lines of clothing.

after they did, they wouldn't even put an outlet in the town to help the
Hollister folk with their economy (the economy being another story entirely!).

a local woman decided to use her own town's name on a small line of her own

A&F didn't like that.

it seems that the whole town is up in arms. They want to reclaim their name and
they're publicizing the injustice done them everywhere!

to me that A&F made a whole string of public relations booboos here. Seems
to me that A&F should backtrack. Say, “I'm sorry.” Hire the
Hollister woman to design jeans for them. When the economy does an upturn, put
in an outlet and use that magnanimous gesture to glean all kinds of counter
publicity. Ahem!

means anyone who has anything to sell from retailers to authors–can learn from
the mistakes made by the big guys. Keep a pulse on when your name is being
praised and/or taken in vain by using Alerts from Google and others. Have a
considered plan before catastrophe strikes. Admit your wrong-doing (if any)
immediately and apologize. Fight back immediately when necessary but don't
blame others for your booboos.

2010 Business Jumpstart Telesummit starts soon

Now is the
time to plan for 2010 and create your business plan. Set time aside for the
2010 Business Jumpstart Telesummit. This week long event from January 18-22nd
will be co-hosted by Loren Fogelman, Mindset for Marketing Success with Pat
Mussieux, Steps2Happiness.

What I have
found is that many solopreneurs want to have a full practice, but don’t know
all of the pieces to make that happen. As a result, they struggle to get more
clients and don’t know what their income will be from month to month.

This was
part of Loren and Pat’s challenge as well when they made the decision to create
an online business. For the first couple of months it was like a deer in
headlights as they tried to navigate the different forms of social networking.

Many solopreneurs
know how to market in a brick and mortar practice, but creating a virtual
practice is a whole new world. Fortunately there is a lot of information freely
available and you can follow people who already know the ropes. Learning from
the masters will help to shorten the learning curve.

This year kick
off the year with a telesummit, 2010 Business Jumpstart. It will offer
information about online strategies to create a presence and valuable marketing
tips to get noticed.

Kevin Riley and James Brown Giveaway 2010

Not a day goes by that someone doesn’t ask me what they
need to do to get their business off the ground. There are those who sincerely
want to know and are willing to do what it takes to build a successful business
and then there are those that believe they don’t have to do a darned thing to
create the success they dream of that will give them an incredible lifestyle.
The truth is, you do have to take action. And you need to know where to get the
best information to achieve your outcomes.

Blogging, social marketing, teleseminars, webinars,
information products, membership sites. These are just a handful of the things
you need to learn about that will offer you a lifestyle like none other.  Yet, to even think of learning how to do all
of this can be overwhelming at best.

For those of us who have been making our living online
for years, we can forget what it was like in the early days. What did we have
to do to get our business off the ground? Who did we turn to for knowledge that
would take us from where we were to the next level of where we needed to be?

A daunting question that has taken many people on wild
goose chases and down deep dark rabbit holes that leave you more in the dark
then before.

The solution? Find those who are doing what you want to
do and learn from them. Yet, where do you go to get information that is not
going to require you spend a fortune to do so?

Guess what? You don’t need to go anywhere but right
here. And you don’t need to pay anything for the information from leading
experts from around the globe. But this opportunity is available for a very, very
limited time.

Recently, I was invited to participate one of the most
amazing information product giveaways to come along in quite some time. It’s the
brain child of two of the most successful online marketers around; Kevin Riley
and James Brown (JB).

Kevin and JB handpicked partners to offer amazing gifts
to help you build your business. It doesn’t matter if you are brand new to
online marketing, a seasoned professional or anywhere in-between, you will find
tools guaranteed to help you grow your business.

The best part of all is there is information available
for those who do want to learn how to be an Internet Marketer and tools for
those who have a business that has nothing to do with online marketing, but you
know you need online marketing information to build your business.
