6 Must Knows to Building a Successful Online Business

Every day, hopeful men and women join the ranks of those who want to build a successful business on the Internet or by using the Internet. What begins out as “stars in their eyes” may soon turn to tears in their eyes.

The sad truth is, most will fail. It’s not for lack of desire but rather that they miss one of the most important aspects of running a business — using the Internet. They fail to understand the absolute importance of running their business like a business. It’s as simple as that.

Having owned and operated my business for 16 years, I have witnessed far too many people miss incredible opportunity because they buy into hype, rather than laying a foundation for success.

The fact is you have to work at building your business. AND… you MUST treat it like a business.

For me, the transition from brick and mortar to online was not too much of a stretch on the business side. I already had a very substantial foundation, including a DBA (doing business as), business license, and we incorporated very early on.

In addition, I did all of the following. These are the same recommendations I make to virtually anyone who wants to build a viable business.

Where is your Internet marketing energy going?

Running a business is about energy. There are many types of energy one can refer to; physical, emotional and spiritual to name just a few.

Ask some entrepreneurs what the energy of a business is about and they will give you a long, drawn out answer that likely will be difficult to wrap your mind around.

For the purpose of this discussion I am referring to physical energy which includes allocation of your time.
There is still no shortage of conversations about how tough times are, how slow business is, and how the economy is in the tank.

This is likely very true for some, but for others, the reason things are slow is they have been unwilling to make necessary changes that can literally turn their business around. Rather, they prefer to do the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Better do it different!
If you want different results you must take different actions. Simple as that. If business is slow and you continue to do things the same way you always have, is it any surprise things are not shifting in a more positive way?
There are numerous aspects of growing a business.

A Simple Formula for Fast, Easy and Profitable Product Development

When I became a professional speaker nearly 16 years ago something I heard over and over from seasoned speakers was to develop product.

These sage words made a huge difference to the success of my business. Why? Because no matter what's happening with the economy having various information products such as books, eBooks, eReports, transcripts, and MP3’s, can make a huge difference. You can go from a so-so revenue stream to one where you can generate thousands upon thousands of dollars in passive income.

Not only will information products boost your business they also boost your revenues and your expert status more than just about anything else.

If you have yet to develop your first “simple” product it may be easier than you think to get started.

Is your Social Network involvement a plus or a disaster waiting to happen?

Every day men and women from around the globe join Social Networks because they “heard” it's necessary to join in the social network craze. Although Social Networks can be a great way to connect with family, friends, colleagues, current clients, potential clients and high school buddies they can also be a complete waste of time and a open invitation for trouble we often don't think about.

In virtually every Social Network you belong to, you will likely need to set up a profile. A profile gives information to others about who you are. This is where Social Networks can either work in your favor or be your worst nightmare.

The amount you can put in your profile is determined by the rules of that Social Network. Additionally what you add in is based on hat you want people to know about you and what is safe for them to know.

Here are a few tips to assure a robust profile and yet one that doesn't open you up for unforeseen problems.

The social media world is about you connecting with others. Avoid being too “dry” in building your profile. Add your own personality in such a way that regardless of who reads it, listens to it or sees it, you are comfortable with what you share.

As you develop your profile, spend time building a solid profile. Rather than simply putting your name and birth date up, what else would you like people to know about you?

You can add in pictures, a bio, your geographic location, marital status, religious leanings and political persuasion to name just a few of the items for a profile.

Precautions
Internet security experts have great concerns for the lack of information many people have regarding how to protect themselves from scams in Social Networks. Realize that not everyone is who they say they are and if you give too much information, you could be setting yourself up for major problems.

If one more person tells me I’m so lucky…

Is your business prepared for the unexpected? If not, read this….

A little more than six months ago, I was training for a marathon as a power walker. During one of my longer workout sessions, I hit a pothole and instantly broke my ankle.

I was literally stopped in my tracks. Knowing I would be laid up for a few weeks, I took the first few days to relax and enjoy lounging on the couch. This was a great opportunity to review my business to determine if it was structured as soundly as I believed it to be.

Fortunately things were very sound and there was very little, if anything, that needed changing or fine tuning with my business structure. To say I was grateful is an understatement. I was ecstatic that I could take some needed time off to heal and still see revenues continue.

With each passing day I realized I had been well served to design my business the way I had. Thinking it would be only a few weeks of inconvenience, it soon became apparent life had a completely different plan for my time than I did.

Without going into a lot of detail I can assure you my life has literally turned upside down in the past six Upside months. I have experienced what many baby boomers are experiencing with unavoidable family concerns.

Authors won’t make a difference if their books can’t be found

Ask most authors why they write and they will likely
tell you it is respond, “To make a difference.” Regardless of whether they are
fiction or nonfiction authors, something drives us to get our message out.

Unfortunately, a great many authors will never have
more than a handful of people reading their works
other than family and friends.
This is directly related to their lack of knowledge and understanding of their
need to promote their own books.

Things have changed
Prior to all the choices available due to the Internet
and Social Marketing the greatest limitation in marketing was time and money
with money being at the top of the list for most authors.

Because of Social Marketing what is possible is far
easier and much less costly than ever before.
One would be foolish not to take advantage of even a few resources
available literally at their fingertips.  A few minutes a day of focused online
marketing effort can increase your visibility and book sales in leaps and
bounds.

7 Secrets to profitable affiliate and Joint Venture Partnerships

If you’ve been around the Internet for any length of time, you have likely heard you can make money through Joint Venture partnerships and affiliate programs. You may already be doing so, but not at the level you know is possible.

Without a doubt, partnering with the right people increases your market reach, credibility and revenue stream. It’s a great way to do business. Unfortunately, many people attempt to do so without really understanding how to gain the greatest benefit for all concerned.

More than one way to do this
There are numerous types of affiliate and joint venture partner arrangements and relationships. There are those where as an affiliate you simply search out products and services that you think your market wants or with very little interaction between the you and the affiliate. Conversely, you have those who seek out your products and services for their market, but have very little interaction with you.

There are affiliate programs where no one really knows who is behind the product, you just know you might be able to make money by selling it; whatever it may be. Usually a widget of some sort.

Create a Sustainable Lifestyle Business with Five Leading Women Experts

According
to the Center for Women's Business Research, 10.1 million firms are owed by
women, employing 13 million people as of 2008. Women-owned firms account for
40% of all privately held firms. Yet, historically men have dominated the live
business event arena.
Not anymore.

Five leading women entrepreneurs are hosting
the Radiant Success Event www.RadiantSuccessEvent.com,
May 20-23, 2010 in Raleigh, NC. Presenters for this first-of-its-kind event include
Janis Pettit, Denise Wakeman, Kathleen Gage, Marnie Pehrson, and Ellen Britt.
They will be sharing advice, strategies, tactics, and the mindset that helped
them get where they are today.

A
few years ago an invitation-only group of highly successful women entrepreneurs
joined together
to form a mastermind group. The goal was to share insights and
business building strategies and to support each other's business growth. As it
turned out, the combined knowledge and reach of this small group was impressive
and vast.

Janis
Pettit
, the coordinator of the event explains, “We noticed there were few
opportunities for small and solo business owners and entrepreneurs to learn the
combination of the best business building, income generating and online and
offline marketing and mindset strategies from experts at a live event.  And there were none presented by women.

We
also knew the power of networking and interacting at a live event is more
powerful than any other learning experience. Finally, it bothered us that so
many business owners were stuck and needed real help ASAP! Since we shared a
mission to help as many people succeed as possible, we decided to work together
to create the Radiant Success Event.”

“Women
entrepreneurs often have families and homes to care for in addition to their businesses.
This results in a stressful juggling act with personal relationships, household
responsibilities, and entrepreneurship. More than anyone, women entrepreneurs
need a lifestyle business that produces revenue while they're handling life's
priorities. Men will definitely benefit from the event, but we believe learning
from our combined experience as women entrepreneurs will be a breath of fresh
air for women seeking to build sustainable, lifestyle businesses,” says
Marnie Pehrson, creator of IdeaMarketers.com.

Denise
Wakeman
of The Blog Squad adds, “The Radiant Success event promises to
take you through the steps to plan, build and market your business. I'm excited
about the speaker line up and the depth of content we'll be covering to support
entrepreneurs at every stage of their business development. And nothing beats a
live event for accelerating your progress through networking, conversations and
opportunities to brainstorm your ideas.”

Event, go to http://www.RadiantSuccessEvent.com
