Sometimes life just plain sucks!

In the last few days I've had conversations with at least half a dozen colleagues who hit the wall. Each is incredibly successful in their chosen endeavors, but right now things are mounting up to what can seem insurmountable challenges.

Have you ever felt like this? You're doing all you know you should be doing but things aren't turning out the way you planned.

Or, you get some really challenging news and you think, “Shoot, I've been doing everything I can with integrity and now this happens.”

Although most of us have heard, “Everything happens for a reason,” when we are in the middle of crap it's not always easy to remember this.

Lately, I've talked to a lot of people who are going through very challenging times. They are being pushed to the max with their patience, time, finances and trust.

When someone's in the middle of their own pile of poo-poo that's not the time they want to hear, “Just stay positive, it will all work out.”

It may be that all they need to hear is, “I'm so sorry you're going through this. If you need to talk, I'm here.”

Then there comes the time when they do need to hear something different. They may need to hear, “Buck up and move on.”

I had that kind of day recently. Nothing outwardly was wrong, but I decided to throw a pity party and anyone within earshot was invited.

Fortunately, I have someone in my life who knows when to say, “I'm really sorry you're going through this,” at the right time and “Buck up and get over it at other times.”

While I was wallowing in that place we rarely like to go, I was given some great advice.

Here's what I was told I should do.

  • Get outside to get fresh air.
  • Do some exercise to get rid of the stinking thinking.
  • Pray and ask for guidance.
  • Meditate and get centered.
  • Acknowledge what I have to be grateful for.

After a bit of resistance, I decided to try the exercise first. I got on my bicycle and peddled for miles all the while praying for guidance. Whew! That got me on the right track.

  • Upon returning home I put on a nice meditation CD. Exactly what I needed.
  • Then I talked to a trusted friend.
  • Then I thought about all I have to be grateful for. This really did the trick.

You see, years ago, I didn't realize the power of gratitude. I was always focused on what was wrong rather than what is right.

My focus was so strong that I literally ended up without a job, a home, and enough money to buy a cup of coffee. Yes, I ended up on the streets. I was definitely not a very together person back then.

In my mind, I had plenty of evidence of how messed up life was.

What I didn't know at that time was what we focus on we tend to get more of. Much of why my life was so messed up was my own doing. But you sure wouldn't hear me admitting that in my twenties.

Today, I rarely get into the space of things being wrong not matter what is going on. And when I do I have the tools to change it around. This doesn't mean that everything is going to be a bed of roses or a walk in the park.

What it does mean is I am able to get through these situations with grace and appreciation.

I think somethings in the air right now because lots of people are feeling very challenged.

To some I can truly say, “I am so sorry you are going through this,” and mean it.

To others I can truly say, “Buck up and move on,” and mean it.

What I also know is that by taking time to step back to take the time to move, pray, meditate and acknowledge what we are grateful for, we tend to get more of what we are grateful for.

What do you do when life throws you a curve ball? Comments and insights welcome.

How effective are Google Hangouts?

In the time I have been online so much has changed. When I first discovered the power of the internet there were very few people utilizing it as a resource to build their business. Today, this is not the case.

There are any number of ways to drive traffic to a website, a landing page, a brick and mortar business and an online event. Yet, many people are not fully maximizing their efforts.

I had the privilege of sharing time with my friend and colleague, Denise Wakeman, during a recent Google Hangout.

We talked about the changes we have seen happening at an ever increasing rate. We also talked about my newest book, Power Up for Profits! The Smart Woman's Guide to Online Marketing.

Check it out below.

Fear of criticism is your worst enemy

“You cannot have rabid fans unless you are willing to have rabid enemies,” Suzanne Evans.

Not wanting to receive criticism is one of the main reasons people never put themselves out to market in a big way. “What if someone doesn't like me?” is a question I have often been asked by someone who claims to want to have a major impact, but holds back on what they are doing for fear of criticism.

I've got news for you; no matter what you do, you will have critics. Here's a great example.

jocyeI'm a huge fan of Joyce Meyer. I love listening to her. Joyce Meyer is an evangelical minister and one of the world's leading practical Bible teachers and a New York Times bestselling author, spreading God's Word to millions of people each year. She has written over 70 books, conducts close to fifteen conferences annually, and reaches a potential audience of 3 billion people worldwide with her Enjoying Everyday Life® broadcast. Time magazine selected Joyce as one of the most influential evangelical leaders in America.

In spite of the good works she does, she definitely has her critics. Some of her critics go so far as to put up websites to make sure people know how bad a person she is. Some critics say a woman's place is at home and not preaching.

On the flip side, there are those who would travel to the ends of the earth to hear her preach. They buy all her books and donate money on a regular basis to her ministry.

tiaThen there's Tia Torres of the Pitbull and Parolee fame. Tia is recognized as one of the most outspoken advocates for the safety of Pitbulls. There are those who absolutely adore her and all the good she is doing while others will do anything to stop her from doing her life's work.

The fact is, no matter who you are and what you do, you will have critics and you will have fans.

Many people try to win over their critics rather than focusing on building deep connections with their fans. This is a huge mistake simply because many of your critics are not looking to change how they feel about you.

If you live in the space of trying to please everyone you are going to sorely miss your opportunity to impact your community (your raving fans) in a big way.

Face it; not everyone is going to like you, what you do or what you stand for. That's okay.

What's not okay is for you to know you have big work to do in this lifetime, but because you fear not being liked by everyone you stay in your safe little world. What a pity.

I've often said, “The world is in a world of hurt. If what you do even remotely heals the minds, bodies, spirits, finances and relationships of your tribe, you absolutely must do all you can to get your message out to market.”

Earlier today a radio host asked what motivated me to write my newest book, Power Up for Profits! The Smart Woman's Guide to Online Marketing at this time.

I decided to write this book at this time in order to teach as many conscious entrepreneurs as I can how to get their message out to as many people as possible in a big way in order to shift the energy of the planet.

Will there be people who may not like the book? Probably. But I didn't write the book for them. I wrote it for those who know they are here for a reason and are ready to step up to the plate and play full out regardless of who says what.

Isn't it time for you to do what you came here to do? Absolutely.

PowerUp3D_HighResSpeaking of my book here's what Suzanne Evans has to say:

Kathleen Gage clearly understands two things: Power and Profit.  While this book allows you to use your passions and creativity to find a wealthy path in business it doesn't allow you to get bogged down in the BS of “how”.  It's clear.  It's step by step. AND it's funny and compassionate. This is a must read for any woman (or man) ready to build a business (with lots of profits).

From your first $100 to your first $100,000 online – This is how

Before you can make $100,000 online it’s likely you need to make your first $100. Yet, so many people try to go from zero to sixty with nothing in between.

The first time I made $50 in a day from my online efforts I was over the moon excited. I figured if I could make $50 I could make $500. If I could make $500 I could make $5,000.

Not only have I proven this to be true, I’ve taught others how to do so.

Making the first $100 is often harder than continuing to make money.  But once you have the formula you can repeat it over and over.

So much in fact, there will come a time it’s feasible to make $100,000 in one fell swoop.

How do I know? Because I’ve done both. In answer to the many requests I’ve had from those new to making money online I wrote How To Make Your First $100 Online.

On the flip side I have lots of people who want to know how to make six figures. The best way to do so is sell from the platform. The platform could be teleseminars, webinars and on the stage with an audience.

Because I know how important it is to know how to sell from the platform I created – How to Sell Thousands from Any Platform program.

I would love to give you both the report  How To Make Your First $100 Online and How to Sell Thousands from Any Platform program.

Authors! How Will Readers Know about Your Books?

I've often been intrigued by statistics. On occasion there are stats that absolutely boggle my mind.

Take the one I found on about the number of Kindle version books that are published monthly. In the last three months there have been 235,643 ebooks published on Kindle. Holy moly. That's huge.

Add to that the number of physical books on in the last ninety days (347,128) and you have to wonder how an author gains recognition for their book.kindle2

In a word: promotions.

However, for many authors they liken self promoting to less desirable than a root canal.

I find it amazing that an author would invest so much time in writing their books and then put little, if any, effort into marketing them.

The reality is this; an author has to be willing to take responsibility for getting the word out about their published works. It's actually a lot easier than many authors realize.

With the advent of social media an author can build a community of avid fans who are eager to buy their books. Add to this online radio, media release directories, video marketing, teleseminars, webinars and Google Hangouts and an author can quickly gain visibility for their works.

My newest book is one that I will definitely be doing a lot of promotions on. The book is an answer to an unfilled need.

With over 8 million U.S. businesses currently majority women-owned equating to an economic impact of $3 trillion that translates into the creation and/or maintenance of 23 million jobs* I  did what no other author has ever done; written the first ever book by a woman, specifically for women, on the topic of online marketing.

Anticipating the need to arm women with the right information to grow their businesses, I knew it was time to write the first-ever book addressing this topic specifically for women. I provide the proven solution for how to quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively establish a strong presence using a plethora of online means.

The fastest route to a profitable online business

One of the most rewarding elements of having an online business is the opportunity to communicate with men and women around the globe. There are a number of ways this can be done:

  • Simple email messages
  • Ezines
  • Teleseminars
  • Blogging
  • Social marketing
  • Information products – one of my personal favorites

Information products serve a number of purposes with some of the greatest benefits being building credibility, expert status, and revenues.

Ever since I created my first information product back in the mid-nineties, it’s been so exciting to create something once and watch revenues come in more than once. It was in 2009 when I really understood the power of product creation; this is when everything in my life changed in an instant. My world had turned upside down with a single phone call and for the first time in fifteen-plus years of owning my business I chose to cancel several teleseminars, interviews, and client mentoring sessions and to postpone my various online events for an indefinite period of time. In a matter of four weeks I went from having two parents, a viable business, and not much that concerned me to my father passing away and me becoming one of the primary caretakers for my mother. I had no idea how long I would be caring for my mom, and I didn’t much care. All I cared about was being able to answer a special calling and keeping my business running.

It didn’t take long to recognize how important all the products I had created up to that point would be in generating revenue during this difficult time. I also recognized that as long as I had my computer and an internet connection, I could continue to create products for my market.

Even when my mother fell ill and ended up in the hospital for weeks and months on end, I was able to create products by her bedside. Had I not had this flexibility, one of two things would have occurred. One, my business would have suffered financially and my personal and professional responsibilities would have also suffered. Two, I could not have been there for my mother as much as I was able to be.

I directly attribute my ability to make the best choices for me and my family to having created several information products. I was not at the mercy of “dollars for hours.”

If your business is not set up to give you the flexibility you choose and need, determine what information products you can create and take them to market as soon as possible. When your business is set up so that you are not trading dollars for hours 100 percent of the time, you have the flexibility you need to address unexpected situations and the freedom to make the choices in times of personal crisis or when you need to take time off. You can create this sustainability through multiple streams of revenue.

Information products are the best way to package your expertise and knowledge base. I know lots of people making hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, and even hundreds of thousands of dollars each and every month with their information products. Many top experts offer everything from low-priced information products to high-priced resources.
