Your business can change in minute

Have you ever wished for something to change and yet, it seems like it never will? Actually, things can change in a moment…or so it seems.

What can seem like an instant usually takes more than a moment. It can take days, weeks, months, even years.

But why wait years to make a big change now? A change designed to improve your overall well being. And yet, it will likely not only improve your health, it will most likely improve your business, finances, relationships, intuition, and overall outlook on life.

So what is the change and what do you need to do to make it? The change is anything you decide to do to improve you health and fitness.

And all you need to do to get involved is hop over to the Facebook page Women's Health & Fitness at and watch the short video about the challenge.

whfThe fact is, when you're on track with taking care of yourself in mind, body and spirit, many amazing things occur.

The 30 Day Health and Fitness Challenge begins on Wednesday, July 1st.  Regardless of when you see this,  you can begin a 30 day challenge to improve the quality of your life.

Professionally or personally… courage is not the absence of fear

How often does someone let fear stop them from achieving their best self? Many people have the mistaken belief that if fear shows up it means they are doing something wrong.

Fear is a part of life. It can contribute to us really experiencing the “juice of life” in a big way.

One and the Same

Did you know that fear and excitement often show up as the same feeling in the body?

It has been said, “Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the ability to feel fear and move through it anyway.”

Mistakenly, people can look at someone who seems to have no fear and assume they just fly through life taking risk after risk with no limits to what they will accomplish.

Actually, the opposite can be true. Rather than having no fear, they feel the fear and do the “thing” anyway.

No Fear is an Illusion

On more than one occasion I’ve had people comment how nice it must be for me to not have fear when I have accomplished something. I hear this all the time when I get on the platform to speak.

After an “in the zone” presentation I often have at least one person who say, “Wow! You're so lucky you were born with that skill and you obviously have never had fear around speaking.”

Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have plenty of memories of how fear almost stopped me flat in my tracks.

It's the same with other things I've accomplished. Many times I would be in the middle of fulfilling a dream or goal and at the most inopportune time fear reared its ugly head.

When this happened I would think, “What the “*?%*+%*” was I thinking to agree to do this?”

But rather than let the fear stop me, I would figure out how to work around it, go through it or knock it down completely.

After I would get through the fear, more times than not the outcome was incredible.

Push Yourself

Not just in business, but in my personal endeavors too. One of the personal accomplishments was the 2015 Eugene marathon. I participated as a gift to myself for my 61st birthday.

Yet, during many training days I wondered why I had made the commitment. Not only did I make it to myself, but to dozens of people who sponsored my participation in the marathon by donating for two animal rescue organizations.

I recall one specific time fear almost took over. During the 16th mile of the marathon, when my body wanted to quit, my heart and soul thought, “I can't quit. I won't let all those people down and most of all, I won't let myself down.”

I also thought of my mom throughout my first full marathon that took place on Mother’s Day 2015. I just knew she was looking down from the heavens. I could hear her voice saying, “You got this. You got this.”

I dug deep to find the strength to go on and I finished. Not a world record holder by any stretch, but I crossed the finish line.

Over the years, I have done this with many challenges, both personal and professional. Rather than give up, I had to find that place inside to dig deep.

Here’s the deal, when you push your own limits, not only do you learn more about what you are made of, but others notice what you’re doing.

Character is Power

Opportunities do show up when others notice what our character is. On the flip side, many opportunities are lost when we show what we are not made of.

The reality is this; people do notice how we handle fear. It’s not that they expect us to not have fear. Nope, it's in how we handle ourselves when fear becomes our garment of the day, opportunities are either made or taken away.

Some people believe all would be perfect if opportunity presented itself in a nicely wrapped package with a beautiful bow on top. In reality, opportunity often presents itself with some of our greatest messes and challenges.

It’s definitely not what happens that matters, but how we handle it that makes all the difference.

Improve your business with a 30 Day Health Challenge

It’s a proven fact; the healthier you are the better you perform both personally and professionally. According to an article on, exercise makes you perform better at work.

As well, there is a direct correlation to happiness and fitness. It’s not just about how we feel about ourselves. It’s all about the endorphins we release with the right exercise and diet. I’m not referring to a diet where you quickly drop a bunch of weight only to gain it all back (and some) when you get off the diet. I’m talking about a diet of healthy eating.

So besides eating healthy, why should you care about endorphins? Here’s why; endorphins stimulate the brain and numb pain. They create feelings of elation and contentment. They lower your stress. The name comes from endogenous (meaning within) and morphine (morphine being a pain killer).

So if you really want to feel better, perform better and have an overall improved outlook in life, exercise and eat right.

“Science backs up the premise that regular exercise actually boosts your mood and makes you a more joyful person. When you workout intensely, physiological changes take place in your body that increase a feeling of happiness.” (

Often, the thought of taking on one more thing, like exercise and eating healthy, seems overwhelming. Mostly because we see no end in sight. A simple solution is to make the change for specific period of time. In many circles, 30 day challenges have become very popular.

Challenges range from work related such as committing to a minimum number of sales calls per day to personal goals of increasing the amount of time someone spends with their spouse and/or kids.

Physical challenges have ranged from eating raw for 30 days, no sugar for 30 days, 30 days of 100 squats, walking 30 minutes a day for 30 days or doing 30 sit ups a day for 30 days.

Another popular health challenge has been a 30 day Green Smoothie challenge.

Whatever the challenge, the idea is to make it a stretch and yet, doable. You don’t want to commit to something that is going to be impossible to achieve or something that will injure you. For example, if someone has been a royal couch potato for a long time and commits to immediately running 10 miles a day for 30 days this is a foolish challenge.

As with any goal you set, you want to make it realistic while pushing your own limits. Something that many experts recommend before starting a 30 day physical challenge is to check with your doctor to make sure you are healthy enough to begin. This is a good idea for many people. For others, you already know what your limits are.

Disclaimer: I am not a health expert, nutritionist, or medical expert so I take no responsibility in the choice you make. I’m an entrepreneur who knows that we all deal with challenges on a daily basis. The better we feel the better we respond to the daily challenges.

When I work with my clients, I look for ways to get them to perform at their best. I focus on their focus in business as well as their level of fulfillment in what they do. Knowing that there is a very close relationship between how we feel physically, emotionally and spiritually to how well we perform in our businesses, I’ve decided to open up a 30 day health and fitness challenge beginning on July 1st.

Although my focus is on working with women, the challenge is open to anyone who cares to join in.

To learn more about the challenge, go to Women’s Health & Fitness on Facebook, LIKE the page and get ready to pull your own covers on what you need to challenge yourself with during the month of July.

9 reasons millions know and love Joel Comm

joel 5 If you've been online for any length of time, you've likely heard the name, Joel Comm. Acknowledged as one of the most influential experts online, by far, Joel Comm is one of the most recognized names in the space of Internet Marketing.

Yet, some newbies (and even a few old timers) in this space may wonder why Joel seems to be “so lucky” to be seen everywhere.

Ever wonder what Joel's secret is? Wonder no more… here's why:

1. He's been around for a long time. (okay Joel, it does mean you're getting older and aren't we all 😆 )

While most people were still wondering if they should get online, Joel was laying the foundation for an incredible virtual foot print. A Google search of Joel's name brings up information dating back 20 plus years. He's got a “Big Foot” imprint.

2. Joel Comm has consistently delivered great content  for decades in various ways on a number of platforms. He didn't settle for just one thing, but rather, has his fingers in many pies. He is always willing to put new information to market.

joel 33. He's connected with, and joins forces with, others realizing there's power and influence in the right partnerships. Evidence is his recent book launch of the most recent version of Twitter Power. There was a period during the launch where images of people reading his book were popping up all over the Internet. This certainly wasn't by chance, but rather it was due to a community of influential thought leaders rallying around Joel to make people aware of this information filled book.

4. Joel Comm loves what he does. Regardless of what he's doing, Joel always seems to be enjoying himself. He has a definite, “can do” attitude. No matter what the outward evidence, Joel has the innate ability to see beyond the physical into the unseen and unknown.

5. He pushes the envelope with many of his ideas. While lots of people might have an idea and then stop short of implementation due to fear of criticism, Joel jumps in with both feet knowing not everyone will like his ideas, but also knowing millions of people might. Therein lies the secret to his success.

Case in point – iFart Mobile. The app was joel 4launched in December 2008 by Infomedia, a technology company owned by Joel. Apple’s acceptance of iFart Mobile appeared to mark a change in the company’s policy towards humorous apps.

Once the app took off it seemed to be everywhere. Kathie Lee and Hoda demonstrated the iFart on the Today Show. How's that for powerful messaging?

6. Not everything he's done has been on target, but doesn't let that stop him. I'm sure Joel would be more than happy to share some of his “not so sizzling” ideas with those who say “he's so lucky” to prove luck is not about doing nothing and opportunity just drops in your lap. Luck is about jumping on opportunity, creating opportunity and keeping in motion.

Yet, for each idea that didn't work, he learned something, refused to let this stop him and found a way to keep going. A rare quality indeed.

7. He rarely, if ever, rests on his laurels. When some people think they have “arrived” by publishing one book, Joel has several bestsellers to his name.

Additionally, he is always coming up with more valuable ideas and information to literally make the world a better place. Some might argue that the Fart App didn't make the world a better place, but when you think of how healing laughter is and how many people laughed because of this one tiny app, I rest my case.

8. Joel won't be heard saying, “Oh my gosh, this is going to take so much work. How will I ever get this done?” but rather, “This is going to take effort. Let's put a plan together and start working that plan?” (Okay, this is my own conversation of how I imagine Joel's self talk goes and I know I am likely spot on)

9. Regardless of whether Joel is presenting to a crowd of thousands, or a few dozen, Joel delivers his message with humor, passion, quirkiness and transparency.

While many talk about living with complete authenticity, Joel is doing it. He's not waiting for permission nor is he trying to please everyone. Joel seems to live with the belief that life is far too short and you have to go for the gusto… today!

You don't have to wait for the stars to align, the moon to be in the 7th house, permission from someone else, or everything to be perfect to play full out. Nope, you have to do it today.

Evidence of this is Joel's recent talk at Mile High TedX talk. Speaking to a packed house of 2,200 people, Joel edutained the audience like few experts can.joel 2 (Educated and entertained. A must do with today's short attention span experienced by most adults)

No question about it, Joel Comm earned the right to be on this stage.

While many people fantasize about this type of opportunity, thinking that if they put it on their vision-board, meditate about it, apply Law of Attraction strategies to the outcome, Joel is out doing the footwork. That's not to say he may not have meditated on it, visualized, and tried a few attraction strategies, but the most important thing he is doing is daily footwork.

He's also saying YES! to various opportunities while giving 100% to each and every one regardless of how big or small.

So the next time you wonder why people like Joel Comm seem to have been born under a lucky star, realize that luck is when opportunity and preparedness meet.

Joel certainly was prepared when the powers that be from the Mile High TedX talk came a knocking for him as he will be when other opportunities show up.

Imagine being able to sit in an audience to hear the latest and greatest from Joel. Here's the really cool thing… you don't have to imagine. You can! Joel will be the keynote presenter at The Impact Event

In addition to Joel, you will enjoy hearing from dozens of other “rock stars” like Brian G. Johnson, Tom Beal, founder Ken McArthur, Linda Sterling, David Hancock and more including yours truly, me.

Create endless opportunities to be featured on blogs, podcasts, ezines….

You've likely heard, “Success breeds success.” In order to get more of something, you have to do more of something.

Many experts know they must gain visibility so their market will find them, but seem to struggle with how to do this. The best way to be visible is to be visible.

This might seem a play on words, but truth be told, many people are waiting to get discovered rather than being proactive about getting their name out to market.

You absolutely must drive your opportunities to gain visibility. Here are five simple ways.

1. Blogging. Regardless of whether you're a seasoned pro or in the beginning stages of gaining visibility, one of the most important things to do is post on your own blog. This allows you to position your perspective and point of view.

You'll need to promote the content in as many locations as possible including to your email subscribers, social networks and anywhere your market “hangs out.”

Put together a posting schedule which will keep you on track with consistent posting. You can't expect to do one blog post and miraculously have opportunity drop from the heavens. Getting your name out to market requires consistent effort.

2. Social media. What social networks does your market frequent? Pick 3 -5 networks you can focus on and then go deep into each of these. The challenge resides in all the choices available.

Rather than spreading yourself too thin, focus only on the 3 -5 you have determined will get you the greatest result. As with your blog, be consistent.

3. Interviews. There are plenty of podcast and web radio show hosts looking for experts to interview. If you have an area of expertise, find shows you can be a featured expert on . iTunes and Blog Talk Radio are both great choices to get your message out to market.

Search for shows that would be a great match for your expertise. Listen to a few episodes to get a feel for the format. Based on your research, contact the host to see if you can be a guest on the show. dvorah podcast

Recently, I had the opportunity to be a featured expert on D'vorah Lansky's podcast show, Podcasting Success Secrets for Authors and Entrepreneurs. Not only did I have a great time, D'vorah is very proactive in marketing her show. A win/win/win. Win for the audience who will learn awesome info. Win for D'vorah in that her audience will appreciate the content. Win for me in that I gain visibility to my “sweet spot” market.

4. Teleseminars/webinars. Host your own telesminar or webinar. This offers the opportunity to position your expertise with your market. It will require you promote the teleseminar/webinar. Put a promotions plan together and then work the plan…consistently.

5. Guest blogging. The easiest way to create opportunities to be a guest blogger is to have a solid online foot print of your writing. What this means is the more you are visible in a number of locations the more opportunity you will experience.

With guest blogging, as with interviews, do your research to find those blogs that are a good match for your expertise and market. Study the blog and then contact the blog owner to inquire about guest blogging opportunities.

No matter where you want to be seen, do your research and be fully prepared to jump on opportunity.

The more organized you are the better. As soon as an opportunity presents itself, respond in a timely fashion. Be easy to work with and provide outstanding content and you will have ample opportunity to increase your market reach.

Animal enthusiasts turn their passion into businesses with BlogPaws

blogpawsNot long ago I had the distinct pleasure of presenting at the BlogPaws 2015 Conference – the only conference of its type in the world.

BlogPaws is the Professional Pet Blogger Network that provides a range of marketing program opportunities, along with growth and development benefits to help animal bloggers define and achieve their goals.

The fact is, for most pet bloggers, it's about more than just money. It's about the love of animals and the desire to educate the public about all things animals. However, in order to do more of what they are here to do, animal bloggers do know it sure helps to monetize their efforts.

BlogPaws Conference is one of the most important events hosted by the BlogPaws crew. It is also highly supported by incredible sponsors, speakers, and of course attendees.

Sponsors included MARS Petcare, Cesar Canine Cuisine, Dentastix, IAMS, Temptation, Nutro, Greenies and many more. The lineup of sponsors was spectacular.

What I loved most about BlogPaws were the number of four legged critters their humans brought to the event. Never have I been to an event where pets were allowed in such numbers, let alone encouraged, to attend.

Ironically, until a few months ago I never heard of BlogPaws or the conference.

I teach my clients and those who attend my workshops, masterminds and various training courses this; when you follow your passion, show up to a calling, do the foot work, and let go of the outcome, amazing things happen.

So how does someone who is recognized for online marketing and business consulting, is the author of countless information products on the topics of speaking, writing, product creation, and visibility as well as the author of one of the most content filled book on online marketing end up speaking at a conference to a market she normally doesn't work with… until now?

Here's how… by doing exactly what I encourage others to do; be transparent about what I'm passionate about and believe in it so much I couldn't imagine not putting time, effort and money into my passions.

For more years than I can count my spouse and I have been involved in animal rescue. We've taken in dogs, cats, horses, a ferret and even a goat. Most of the rescues came from abusive situations.dustin

We also donate a great deal to our favorite animal charities. A little over a year ago, on one of the rainiest days of the season, a small, unidentifiable dog showed up on our property. Stinking to high heaven, barely able to stand up, her eyes filled with infections, and lumps all over her belly, this dog had obviously been used and abused until one day she was all used up and discarded.

In that we live in a very rural area it took quite a miracle for this near dead dog to make her way to our home. Immediately we took her to the vet and groomer. The vet determined the dog was between 8 – 10 years old. She had not been spayed which meant she was likely held captive by a backyard breeder. The lumps on her belly turned out to be mammary cancer.

While at the vet's office she got her new name; Delaney. Delaney Before

Karen, myself, the vet and the groomer all felt Delaney had one, maybe two, weeks left. Yet, Delaney surprised us all. After a few weeks we began thinking in terms of how to increase Delaney's quality of life rather than simply making her comfortable until she passed.

Her biopsy results indicated that surgery would likely give her a great quality of life. But there were so many tumors it required two surgeries.

After over $1,000 out of pocket for her first surgery, and knowing the second one would be close to $2,000, I decided to reach out to my community for help. I created a low priced information product and used the revenues to offset the second surgery.

I launched the campaign as I would any product launch which meant proactive marketing and getting as much visibility for the promotion as possible. Within less than 48 hours I raised enough to pay for the first and second surgery.

Throughout the process I documented Delaney's progress.Delaney After

On one of my daily rituals of checking my email inbox, one message stood out with a request for me to speak at the 2015 BlogPaws Conference.

I immediately went to the BlogPaws webpage. I was impressed with all the things happening with BlogPaws.

I hopped on the phone with Yvonne DiVita, one of the key players with BlogPaws including the annual conference that attracts hundreds of animals bloggers.

“We'd love for you to come out to the conference to talk about how animal bloggers can make money blogging,” Yvonne said.

“But my market is not those in the animal industry. I'm not opposed to it and I do have a few clients who are in the animal industry, but it's not what I'm known for,” I responded.

“But you love animals and you know how to make money online,” Yvonne calmly stated.

“That's true,” I replied and a moment later I committed with a resounding, “I'm in.” I loved the idea of visiting Nashville, Tennessee, one of the few cities I have not spoken in and hanging out with a bunch of four legged critters and their humans.

By far, BlogPaws Conference has been one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. Not only was the entire BlogPaws team over the moon amazing, the sponsors were engaging, fun and informative and the participants and the four legged critters memorable.

Something even more amazing occurred. Since that time, other opportunities to speak to, and work with those whose businesses are all about animals, have presented themselves.

What incredible evidence that when we show up for our passion, do the foot work and trust the process, amazing results happen.

One things for sure… I'm now a huge fan of BlogPaws and all they do and stand for. A great organization. Check it out.

What's your passion and what do you do to honor an expression of this? Are you willing to step out, do the footwork and trust that amazing opportunities will show up? Comments welcome.

Your success is directly proportionate to your ability to be incredibly honest with yourself

A few weeks ago I completed my first ever marathon. Crossing the finish line at the 26.2 mile marker was my gift to myself for my 61st birthday.

It's likely I hold the distinction of being the last to cross the finish line for the 2015 Eugene Marathon and yet, as many of my friends and colleagues have said, “You finished.”

The challenge with believing finishing is as good as it gets is that I'm fooling myself to believe I did my best. Looking back I know I could have done a heck of a lot better. Here's why…

From the start, I hired a coach to work with me. My coach recommended a three prong approach to the process.

  • Power walk training
  • Healthy eating
  • Resistance training

It didn't take but a few training days to notice the number of parallels in training and completing a marathon to running a business. I became keenly aware as to why many people barely reach their potential in virtually anything they attempt.

In order to be successful we have to be willing to get really honest about what we are and are not doing to reach our maximum potential.

We also have to have a multi-prong approach to what we do. In business this includes product/service creation, marketing and sales. There's more than just these three, but for the sake of this post, I'll use the comparison of product/service creation, marketing and sales.

In addition, we have to manage our self talk. You know the talk… it's that part of us that tries to get us to quit or to say, “What in the world were you thinking?”

Although I completed the marathon, I can honestly say I could have done much better if I would have balanced the three prong approach my coach recommended.

From the start my primary focus was on training every day to improve my time and distance with power walking. Although I would occasionally eat the way my coach recommended, I wasn't consistent. Nor was I consistent with the resistance training.

I wanted to do the “fun” stuff. How often do we see this in business? Entrepreneurs are often very creative individuals. We love coming up with ideas. We love mapping out those ideas, but more times than not the areas that are lacking are marketing and sales.

Entrepreneurs fool themselves into believing they are doing all they can to be the best at what they do, but fail to put as much effort into areas that may not be as much fun as the creation side of things.

One area that is crucial to our success is to have the clarity, energy and focus to get things done. Running a successful business is not just about creating ideas, it's about implementation.

If we don't have the energy for implementation we are shortchanging ourselves and our customers and clients.

One of the most immediate ways to improve our energy is to notice what we are putting into our bodies. It's likely most people have heard, “Garbage in, garbage out.”

On the flip side, “Good stuff in, good stuff out.”

The older I get the more committed I am to be the best I can be and to help my clients be the best they can be. For this reason, just as I made a public declaration that I was going to complete a marathon, I am making a public declaration that I will provide you with information, books and other resources to increase your energy, well-being and positive state of mind.

Recommendations I make will be based on what I am doing and the resources I find incredibly helpful.

There are two resources I invite you to check out. One is a book I am currently reading, The 22-Day Revolution. The author is the personal nutritionist for Beyonce'.

Click the image to go directly to Amazon to get your copy of The 22-Day Revolution. Well worth reading.

The other is the Facebook page, Women's Health and Fitness. Click here to go to the page and be sure to LIKE it.

Here's a question… what do you need to get completely honest about to be the best you ever? Comments welcomed and encouraged.
